Video

This video is a bunch of videos I took this semester. I thought it was cool because it shows me what I did thought out the semester and now I will always have a video of my semester at UT to look back on. I chose random clips from through out the year and put it all into one video. My goal was to try and get as many clips as I could and to have them play really fast to keep the views attention the whole way through.

Neo Psychedelic: Tame Impala
Tame Impala is actually a 33 year old solo Australian artist who is actually named Kevin Palmer. Tame Impala has been writing, recording, performing and producing all the music himself since 2007. Tame Impala uses a synthesizer, vocals and guitar, which is very common for neo psychedelic musicians. Psychedelic music feature disjunctive song structures, and whimsical, surreal lyrics/ sounds. Tame Impala's song "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" features these characteristics and also has a very trippy music video to go along with the song.

XEROX project

My Xerox project is one of my favorite projects I created in this class so far. It did not take me a while to complete this project, and it was fun to make. I took a bunch of pictures of my hand using the app "PDF Scanner". I thought not having a Xerox machine would greatly effect my project, but I thought the app worked pretty well. I may have accidentally used $10.00 printing out so many pictures of my hand, but it was easy enough to print the pictures and cut them out in class. Class was also cool because I got to cut out pictures during class time, and not in my off time that I could have spent studying. My project is meaningful to myself in a few ways. I cut out a bunch of hands, and then placed them on a plate, instead of the poster board I had brought to class. I wanted to use an object for more of a visual effect. The plate, represents my life. A large plate to represent all of the responsibilities, difficulties, problems, struggles, disadvantages, and obstacles I face. I used all of the pictures of my hand I took to represent all the people in my life that help me, have helped me, or will help me in the future. When I think about all these hands, I think about my family, friends, peers, professors, guides, and people in my life who have assisted me, even in the slightest way, but because they reached out their hand, they made my life just a little but easier, a little more happier, and and little more healthier. Without all these hands in my life I know I wouldn't be where I am today. I am blessed to be able to go to college in such a beautiful place, and even when I feel lonely away from my friends and family all the way back in New Jersey, I think about how close these people's hand really are to me. I made the middle hand yellow to represent the light that people shine for me to help me grow and guide me to be a better person.

33 Weirdest Music Videos

In class on April 11th, we looked at the 33 weirdest music videos. The second video we watched, by far was the strangest to me. They were slathered in thick paint, and looked like bizarre painting, but in real life. What added to the weirdness, was the actual song itself. They also made really unnatural movements and facial expressions. On top of it the song is called Forever Dolphin Love. The first 4 minute was just a bunch of noise and people staring at the camera. Then, they started going out in public. If I had seen this guy in public I probably would have screamed. The dolphin lady looked super weird, especially when they were in the woods. Empty woods in the evening is a very creepy sight to see. In conclusion, all of the videos we watched today were very peculiar, but the Forever Dolphin Love definitely stood out to me as the weirdest video in the bunch.

Robots???

I hate robots. They terrify me! I have always been scared of robots, or even robotic looking machines. I actually think robots will take over the world. There are hundreds of books, movies, and TV shows that show just how robots will take over the world. I do not think robots should be mass produced. I can see how robots make the world better and easier, but if we made it this far in time without robots, I don't think we need them now. I think robots that only perform basic functions are okay, but robots like Sophia give me nightmares. Another reason why robots are not great in my opinion, is that they will create a tremendous amount of job loss. There are already thousands of Americans who are unemployed, if robots become more of regularly produced item, they will take over even more peoples jobs. Maybe a way to stop robots from taking our jobs is for the government to write and enforce laws from taking certain jobs. Although businesses will be upset with the laws, it will benefit our economy to keep people in the workforce, versus letting businesses profit off of robot workers.

Painted

In class today April 4th, we watched a performance video in class called Painted. It was an interesting video, but also very cool to watch. I liked the aesthetics of the building she was dancing in. The lighting and tones of color in the building were very pleasing to the eye. The way she was dressed made me think of a distressed ballerina. Her make up looked dark and almost made her look hollow. You could see how skinny she was by the way her ribs stuck out of her skin. Another part of the video that was was eerie to see was the raven up close and personal. This performance video made me feel a little sad. I wanted to give the girl a hug because she looked empty and hopeless. I think the point they were trying to show was that the girl was as broken as the destroyed house. One part that stood out to me was when she was sliding across the wall with the peeled away paint. I think the video was trying to show that maybe her or her heart has been slowly peeling away like the paint on the wall.

Lady Gaga's most controversial performances

Watching this videos in class made me think back to when I was in middle school and all of these performances were live on the awards shows. I think Lady Gaga was a big part of growing up for my generation and we didn't even know it. I remember songs like Just Dance and Pokerface being some of my favorite songs. Whenever it came on the radio I would always sing to her songs, but I don't think I ever knew how controversial of a character she was. As a teen, I don't think I realized the impact she was trying to make by her wardrobe and crazy behavior. I wonder if my parents ever thought of censoring her performances from me when I was younger. One of her performance that stood out to me was the 2009 MTV VMAs. I remember watching these as a 10 year old and being grossed out because Lady Gaga covered herself in blood. I'm pretty sure I stopped watching after a few minutes because it was not a very friendly performance for a 10 year old to be watching. All in all, it is interesting to look back at these performances and see how times have changes, and how she as a performer and a celebrity has changed. She still rocks crazy outfits, but now that I can understand the significance of them, they make a whole lot more sense.
